“Sound, made up of vibrations, is energy. A Sanskrit mantra is a mystical energy encased in a sound structure. to release the energy from the sound, we learn to repeat it as a certain rhythm. When you start repeating a mantra, it creates a specific thought pattern. The energy literally manifests itself.” - excerpt from Meditation and Mantras by Swami Vishnudevananda
Join Tamara & Emily in welcoming the new season with moving, chanting, intention setting and yoga nidra. And, yes, there may be some tea.
To start, Tamara will lead you through a few gentle movements to prepare for sitting and then we will chant 108 Gāyatrī Mantras together, but it’s ok if you don’t know the chant and just want to sit and experience it.
Gāyatrī Mantra
Om bhūr-bhuvas-svaḥ tat-savitur vareṇyam
Bhargo devasya dhīmahi dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayātWe meditate upon the radiant light of that adorable Sun. May it awaken our consciousness
After chanting, Emily will prepare you for, and lead you through, a yoga nidra practice which will end with a short meditation if time permits.
Yoga Nidra (also known as yogic sleep) is a practice that can be thought of as conscious resting. It is thought to be amongst the deepest possible states of relaxation while remaining fully conscious. It is an excellent practice for anyone, regardless of their level of yoga or meditation experience. It is fully guided with no movement – you simply lay down in a comfortable position and allow yourself to be guided by the practice.
